Compensating Treads

These non-slips, slanting treads are also known as ‘compensating’ treads as they help to angle the foot in such a way as to encourage a more correct and secure leg position.

Compensating treads are most commonly used for jumping, usually with the high end to the outside of the foot, which stabilizes your knees and ankles and can help improve your balance and security – especially over larger fences. They can also be used with the high end to the inside of your foot, which has the effect of bringing your calf into more contact with the horse and prevents gripping with the knees.
